Hurricane Rita had a serious impact on the city of Beaumont, home of Lamar University and the planned location for the 109th Texas Academy of Science Annual Meeting. We have been able to make contact with the local host, Dr. Jim Westgate, and he feels confident that Lamar will be able to host the meeting since the buildings we plan to use sustained only minor damage. However, we have not been able to confirm the conference hotel and it is unlikely Lamar will be able to process meeting registration for several weeks. We will continue to keep the membership posted on the TAS website as more information becomes available and are going to proceed with the Call for Papers, Symposia, and Competitions for the 109th Annual Meeting.
