In August 2011, the Gulf Coast Section of the Marine Technology Society will be hosting a new workshop focusing on applied science in the Gulf Coast region. This unique workshop will highlight how marine science, technology, engineering, and products support a myriad of issues across the globe. This inaugural event will host several speakers from regional agencies speaking about how their agency applies marine technology in support of natural and manmade disasters, piracy, harmful algal blooms and hypoxia, coastal restoration, marine mammals and fisheries, and other pertinent issues. Events on the 22nd will include set-up and check-in, a reception, and a panel discussion on the possibility of creating a marine technology cluster in our area. The 23rd will feature invited speakers from local government agencies and universities, an exhibit hall, student poster competition, and business matchmaking sessions.
