Safety in the Petroleum Industry - Virtual Symposium

The American Society of Safety Engineers is currently planning its next Virtual Symposium to be held September 21-23, 2010. As with all Virtual Symposium events, this symposium will be delivered entirely online and all webcasts will be recorded for on-demand viewing by our attendees.

In an effort to find the latest best practices in petroleum industry safety, we welcome your proposal for a one-hour concurrent session to be presented online at this event.

All proposals or ideas must be submitted using the online application by AUGUST 6, 2010.

Before submitting your proposal, please review the TOPIC OVERVIEW and PROPOSED LEARNING OUTCOMES below.

Topic Overview

Combining lessons learned from the current oil discharge disaster in the Gulf of Mexico with best practices gleaned from several decades of collective industry experience, ASSE is delivering this very timely Virtual Symposium for SH&E professionals working in the petroleum industry.

Specific Virtual Symposium tracks will focus on:

* Emerging Safety & Health Issues – Emerging safety & health issues are changing the landscape and presenting new challenges for safety professionals, impacting their sphere of influence.

* Environmental Issues – While the majority of safety professionals outside the industry moderately participate in environmental issues, the safety professional in the petroleum industry has well-defined responsibilities related to their organization’s environmental challenges.

* Emergency Response Planning and Execution– When a crisis occurs in the petroleum industry, it can be large scale and catastrophic. Safety professionals in the petroleum industry play a significant role in planning and overseeing the response for these events.
