The event has been traditionally held in Cuba since 1999. This year the goal is to achieve a greater exchange with regional specialists concerning the problems that affect the environment and its natural resources. Emphasis will be on wetlands and harmful algae, although other thematic areas are accepted: Biodiversity, mangroves, tourism, toxicology, environmental education, pharmacology, databases, community and gender, coastal management, trophic balance and fluxes, and modeling.
